Professional Studies


For the Professional Studies assignment we were asked to create a series of images based around visual metaphors using various forms of written language such as poetry, song lyrics, narration or motivational writing.

A visual metaphor uses a visual image rather than words to represent a person, place, thing or idea. Advertising and commercial images often contain visual metaphors that maybe witty, funny or quite subtle using juxtaposition techniques.




This advertisement for Land Rover uses juxtaposition to suggest driving a Land rover is like having a lion for a pet.

Whereas this campaign for playstation has a deeper meaning being simple but effective. 

 



 

It gives the impression of belonging to like a cult and suggests that its also addictive.


Looking at how visual metaphors are used this way has helped me to understand how to create visuals from a piece of literature.
